A compact four-operator FM synthesizer, the DX100 was built as an affordable sibling to the DX7. Its unassuming size belied a remarkable bass voice: the factory preset “Solid Bass” became one of the defining sounds of Detroit techno in the late 1980s, and of the house and techno that followed.
Its influence extended well beyond Detroit, finding its way into the work of Orbital, Laurent Garnier, Jean-Michel Jarre, Autechre and Scanner, among many others.
